Challenge

Children with flatfoot should perform special exercises every day to experience improvement. However, the exercises are boring, the progress is slow, so many patients quit the therapy before getting the desired results. On the other hand, it is difficult for the therapists to motivate them and keep them focused during a therapy session.

Solution

We use mobile phones to detect and recognize the exercises. The live video stream of the camera is processed to achieve this. The application is connected to a game so that the game actions are controlled by performing the required exercises.

Achievements

We developed mobile apps that make the gesture recognition based on image processing, a desktop application that does the same based on processing EMG signals and a game. The game was designed especially for this purpose.

Impacts

With the therapy becoming funnier, children will be more motivated to do the exercises. This will make the therapists’ work easier. Moreover, the system can be used at home, without any special knowledge, so the therapy overall will be more efficient, and results will come faster.
