Open Call for equity-free funding

DIGI-B-CUBE project is launching an open call for funding on 22nd April 2020, to support projects focusing on integrating digital innovations and disruptive technologies across the Medical Diagnostics and related value chains. Small and Medium Enterprises (including new start-ups) operating in the health, medicine, biotech, biopharma, IT or related sectors (robotics, automation, electronics, nanotech etc.) can apply for equity-free funding up to €60,000 through the DIGI-B-CUBE voucher scheme.

Value Chains within the scope of DIGI-B-CUBE Open Call

The DIGI-B-CUBE project organised a series of sectoral (involving SMEs from health, medicine and clinical sectors) and cross sectoral (involving SMEs from health, clinical, IT, ICT, and automation sectors) workshops across Europe. The overall aim was to inform, connect and encourage collective discussion about the innovation barriers for the medical diagnostics value chain development, so to initiate formation of innovation projects and consortia that can apply for the DIGI-B-CUBE voucher scheme.

Results from the workshops

General know-how development: Participants representing the medical sector gained a common understanding of the general medical diagnostics value chain, its technological challenges and the capabilities of state-of-the-art digital technologies, with the final objective to tackle digitalisation challenges within the healthcare sector. On the technological side, the participants voiced a strong interest in adopting artificial intelligence to their business models. The informative sessions on digitalisation helped the participants to better understand the expectations and needs of actors in the health sector.

Innovation challenges: Main innovation challenges faced by the healthcare sector were identified and collected as part of the cross-sectoral workshops. Lack of regulatory know how regarding certification of digital health services e.g. in respect to data safety, patient consent, data ownership and privacy, and lack of experience regarding reimbursement strategies and requirement of payers such as health insurances were acknowledged as key barriers. The challenges of medical diagnostics were understood to be decisive for an improved and even more patient-oriented treatment.

Engagement and networking: Representatives from SMEs (from various sectors) and other organisations (including intermediaries) participated in the workshops. Special focus was given to network and discuss bilaterally and multilaterally in order to foster collaboration between health and IT sectors.

Roadmap for future activities: Project DIGI-B-CUBE offers SMEs the opportunity to meet the identified challenges and solve them in international cooperation projects and the DIGI-B-CUBE open call has been accordingly defined for funding the SMEs. These events are an information hub for upcoming cross-sector workshops and other opportunities to meet and network with international companies.
